1 John 5: 6 – This is He who came by water and blood – Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is Truth.
We all know the story of how God saved His people by parting the Red Sea and drowned their oppressors. Water rescue. Also, the one when He had Moses touch the rock in the desert to quench their thirsts. Water rescue. Then there’s the one about Noah and his family being saved from the flood by building God’s Ark. Again, water rescue. Moving forward there is the one where Jesus turned water into wine and then He had the blind man wash the mud from his eyes in the pool of Siloam. We also know of the time when Jesus was baptized by John and when the Samaritan woman drew water for Jesus to drink, but it was what changed her life. There are many other instances in the bible of when water was used to heal, restore, deliver and fulfill God’s purpose. He showed Himself by water rescue. And by the declaration of science in our present day, our natural physical bodies are made up with the majority being water. Without water after three days, our bodies would begin to die. Now it seems that this topic is going all over the place. Basically, what is the point. Well, using the above-mentioned instances shows how water has been and will always be necessary while we are here on earth. We need the rain, for one, to rescue the land, fill the lakes and streams that provide food and water for all creation. But there is one other instance that water was necessary for our survival. Not just our physical survival but our eternal one as well.
All of the aforementioned did not involve water alone. They each had a partner so to speak. Moses had a rod for the water to function. Noah had the Ark. The blind man had mud, and the woman at the well could not draw without a vessel, etc. But the one instance of water that saved all of humanity had a partner as well. The blood. Without the flow of the water, the blood couldn’t come down. And without the shedding of the blood, there was no salvation or the remission of sin. There would still be that separation from The One who created us for Himself. The scripture says that Christ came by water and blood and that the Spirit of truth bears witness. It was not the water alone that was the rescue in all the stories. The water was used as the vessel, the catalyst if you will. It was God in all of it. And even though the blood is our salvation, purposed by God for our redemption, it was the water that came to the rescue.
Father God: You have always provided a way for us from the beginning of creation. You have shown us that you can do anything you need to to preserve us by Your love. Thank You Father for loving us enough to still provide the water we need until we come home again. Amen.
