Colossians 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
There’s a day I remember well, it comes to my mind often.
I was out doing gig work. Picking up food, making deliveries. Tips matter, they’re like a bonus, when you’re doing that kind of work.
That day I picked up a small order. Hamburger, fries, small drink. Nothing special.
I followed the GPS into a neighborhood I didn’t know, walked up to the door, and knocked.
A little boy opened that door.
I handed him the food. He took it, turned, and closed the door.
No thank you. No tip. Nothing.
Just a closed door.
I stood there for a moment, feeling like there was unfinished business.
Then, I shook my head and returned to my car. As I drove away, I became aware of a lesson beginning to ease my mind.
That boy received something he didn’t understand.
He didn’t know what it took to get that meal to him. So, he responded at his level of awareness.
If the truth is known, many people do the same thing.
They receive things before they understand. They benefit before they appreciate it.
That’s where we get tested.
If you measure your service by how people respond, you’ll start pulling back. You’ll stop giving. You’ll decide they’re not ready.
But that day taught me something simple.
You don’t serve for the response you expect. You serve because of who sent you.
It is written that “Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord.”
Some people are not unready. They’re just unaware.
If you wait for them to fully understand before you trust them with anything, you’ll ultimately end up waiting too long.
So, just keep showing up. Keep placing small things in their hands. That’s how people grow.
Not every door will open with gratitude.
But every act of faithfulness is seen.
And what feels unnoticed on earth is never missed in heaven.
Our Father in Heaven please help me to stay faithful to your call. Amen.
