2 Corinthians 6:14 NKJV Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
A plain cake is a simple dessert that’s easy to make at home—all you need is some basic baking ingredients like flour, sugar, eggs, salt, milk, and baking powder. On their own, these ingredients cannot be considered dessert.
Well, you could eat the sugar and call that dessert. But what reasonable person does that? Now those same ingredients when blended and popped into an oven – Presto, a legitimate dessert to serve!
We believers in Christ are just like those ingredients. Separate and alone, we are only what we are.
When we’re alone we’re not very special. Assembled as the Body of Christ we become something much better, and greater than we could ever be alone. We become an integral part of the Body – The dwelling place of God.
Now consider my all-time favorite – chocolate cake. Homemade chocolate icing is made of several ingredients too. The ingredients are flour, cocoa powder, melted salted butter, confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
We may think we have it all together, because we are very gifted: Anointed is what we call it. This attitude sounds like we think that we can get it all done on our own. That’s a lonely faithless walk though. Remember that we don’t have to put our own personal spin on everything.
Be warned that our adversary wants us to think like that! He tries to convince us to just believe in ourselves. The reality is that without God, we can do nothing.
Chocolate cake is nice and all, but everyone doesn’t like chocolate. Cake is still dessert, even without the icing. A lovely sheet pan cake will do the job just fine.
Alone, we are like the chocolate icing that was added to the cake. Having icing would be nice, but it’s not really necessary. Together, we become an important ingredient! Not a cherry on top, and not an ingredient for the icing either, but one of the main ingredients for the cake.
Aspire today, to become an integral part of the Body of Christ.
Father in heaven help us to concentrate on what’s important. Teach us how to concede and yield our will to your perfect will. Then we’ll know when our spin on things is not needed in the recipe. Amen.
