Matt 6:19-20
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
I remember working when I was a young boy. I was around 15 years old but I looked older. I told my boss I was 16 but I actually was 15. I remember getting paid every Friday, but I had to work what they called a week in the hole. In other words, work a week and then get paid the following week on Friday. I remember getting my first pay check. We had a saying The eagle flys on Friday and today was Friday. I felt good that day and every Friday after that because I knew that the eagle flys on Friday. But why did I feel so good? It was the money. I knew when I got paid I was going to spend it and get the things that I wanted. That made me happy. Now that I’m older I realize that I don’t have to have money and things to be happy. This happy feeling was not produced by the money. Money has no feelings. That happiness was produced by me. I learned that I could have that happy feeling anytime I wanted to… I could choose to walk in the spirit and not to walk in the flesh. I’ve learned that our priority in life should be GOD, people and then things.
My prayer is that I continue to understand that the things in this world is temporal but heavenly things are eternal. Amen
