He Heard My Cry

Psalm 40:1 — I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.

While serving in the US Air Force, in Kunsan, Korea I worked in the Military Pay Section. On payday, dozens of airmen would line up at the customer service desk to lodge complaints about errors in their pay. We would assist each person in the resolution of their complaints until everyone in line was served.

One payday, an airman opened the door, yelled into the room, slammed the door closed, and disappeared.

The next payday, the same thing happened! The same airman, opened the door, shouted into the room, “My pay is fouled up!” He then slammed the door and vanished.

Upon informing our supervisor of this curious occurrence, he devised a plan to identify this airman, bring him inside, and address his dilemma.

The next payday, two pay clerks were stationed at the door, to await this young man’s arrival. As soon as he opened the door and shouted, “My pay…” the clerks grabbed him by the arms and pulled him inside. They seated him at our supervisor’s desk.

Our supervisor served this airman personally. He went over all the young man’s pay records, corrected every discrepancy, and issued him a pay advance, to bring his pay up to date.

We never heard from that airman again!

In much the same way as we did with this airman, the Lord attends to our every need. If you have any problems or concerns today, just cry out to the Lord. He’ll hear your cry and answer.

Heavenly Father, I am grateful that you attend to my needs. Help me to be attentive to your call, so that I may obey your commands. Amen.
