“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5–6
Some people approach life based on how they think things are going to turn out instead of dealing with what is actually happening in front of them. They enter conversations assuming the response. They make decisions expecting a certain result. When reality goes in a different direction, they are left reacting, explaining, and trying to avoid the fallout that follows.
This way of living usually isn’t intentional. It grows out of confidence in our own judgment and the habit of moving too fast. We decide before we listen. We act before we fully understand. Then, when things don’t work out as planned, we scramble to manage consequences instead of owning the choice that led there.
We often treat God this same way. We move forward assuming He will approve, forgive, or adjust to our plans. We delay obedience because we think there will always be more time. We speak and act as though God agrees with our reasoning and only pause to seek Him when things start to unravel.
God never asked us to predict outcomes or stay one step ahead of Him. He asks us to trust Him in the moment we are in, not the one we have imagined. Faith is not acting first and asking God to catch up. Faith is walking with Him carefully, attentively, and honestly, allowing Him to lead instead of expecting Him to respond.
Before you react, slow down. Before you decide, seek God’s direction. Ask yourself whether you truly trust Him or do you simply assume He will handle what you rushed into.
Lord, help me slow my pace and quiet my thoughts. Teach me to respond to life as it is and not as I expect it to be. Keep me from moving ahead of You or taking Your grace for granted. Lead me in Your way and help me trust You with each step I take. Amen.
