Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2.
As a small child, parents are expected to teach their children about God. Teach them about His goodness, His saving grace, and His ways. I remember as a child seeing my parents kneeling down before going to bed, praying together. What were they praying for I wondered that they both did this every night. What was so important! I prayed every night, but I thought “I know God heard their prayers. They were longer than my prayer and hey seemed to be at peace when they kissed and said Amen.” Prayer must be some powerful stuff I thought. I came to realize that no truer words were ever spoken.
You see, that was the beginning of learning, by example that prayer had a purpose and I should begin to practice. I should devote time every morning and every night with God. It should be so important that I feel the shift in my spirit after my one-on-one experience in God’s presence. I am thankful that I witnessed this as a child and carried this practice on to my children and grandchildren as an adult.
The act of devotion to G OD is for a lifetime and should be shared in your home and to your family for the maturing of a rich and purposeful life in Christ. Amen.
