“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12.
I have two grand babies that are sisters, three years apart. The oldest is four years old and her younger sibling is one year old. I have pictures of them in their beds and playing with the beds pushed together. The touching, the smiling, and the babbling is magnificent to watch. At this age, language hasn’t developed but their understanding of each other is flawless. The love shared is pure and sweet. It warms my heart to know that these girls were born to love each other, to care for each other and to share everything with each other.
And you know what, I remember two of my cousins in their adult years, sisters holding hands, and giggling as they walked together after being separated for a long time. That touch of their hands bonded them and took them to a familiar place of love. A place that was calm and peaceful to them and they could enter this place with ease.
I have also taken notice of two sisters that are in their senior years in my family. I hear the love in their voices as they reminiscence together, chuckle together and sometimes share a belly laugh together. I hear the love of their concern for one another. I know it is genuine. It’s amazing that this love is still there… strong, pure and sweet.
God taught us how to love each other. Jesus said, “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.” God is love.
Dear God. You have blessed us with your love from the beginning of time. Even in our infant years you gave us the ability to know and show love. Let us not forget how to love as you have taught us. Amen.
